While we are on the last days of summer, I’ve listed a few tips to make your makeup last longer or look its best during a 6-8 hour day. I’ve also managed to insert a tutorial on how to wear bold eye colors that mimic the sunset hues of summer and make it look wearable specially during the cocktail hour. So read and watch and see how you can incorporate these bold colors into your makeup routine and learn how to extend the look of your makeup any time of the year.
1) Prep your skin well
Moisturize your face to retain moisture and make it look hydrated and plumped up and ready to take in your makeup base. Apply a good sunscreen if you are spending time outdoors or even exposed to HEV light a lot due to increased computer time. Choose a lightweight moisturizer preferable a water based one if you have oily skin, for normal to dry skin choose a more emollient one. A good product to try is Mac Moisture charged water gel moisturizer, easily absorbed and works well with most primers. I also use Sonia Roselli Water Balm, specially for a Bridal Skin prep.
2) Primer
Apply a silicon based primer that will give the skin a blurring and smoothing effect to give the foundation or base something to cling on and minimize the look of pores. Apply on the Tzone area where you tend to be oily and spread out to the cheeks. I like Benefit Porefessional, it does a great job in making your pores look smaller.
3). Choose a medium-full coverage foundation and concealer
If you want to make your foundation or concealer to last all day, choose a heavier coverage that can withstand the humidity. Apply in 1-2 thin layers to achieve skin like effect. Use your fingers to warm up the product or use a buffing brush to buff product in. In this video, I used Makeup Forever Matte Velvet Finish since the medium coverage is enough to last a 6-8 hour day.
4) Use Blotting paper
After applying your foundation or base, blot your face with blotting paper focusing on the Tzone and areas where sebum or oil tend to build up. Choose a blotting paper that doesn’t have a thick powder residue, choose something with rice powder or transparent paper to soak up facial oils without caking your makeup. Good ones to try are Clean and Clear and Tatcha Rice Powder Blotting papers.
5) Choose water proof or gel based products for brow/eye liners and mascara
They are smudgeproof, and can withstand heat and oil and resist smudging. Apply a lash primer before mascara to make lashes fuller. K Palette Brow and Eye liners never fail, they are smudge and budge proof.
6) Minimize the use of Highlighter products
With the tropical heat, putting too much highlighter products on the high points of the face can sometimes make the face look greasy. Apply sparingly. One of my favorites is an oldie but a goodie, MAC Soft and gentle, The name says it all.
7) Apply a lip balm and lip liner before lipstick application
A hydrated lip can make lipstick application glide smoothly; the lipliner can also help in making the lipstick color last longer and help in minimizing feathering.
8) Invest in an Powderless Mattifying powder
You can apply this product under or over your makeup to control shine throughout the day. Good one to try is Eve Pearl Powderless Mattifying Powder , I ve used this product in a cooking video shoot before and the Talent had to ask me what product it was that kept him from oiling up.
9). Spray your face with a Setting spray
This really helps lock in your makeup, a Bridal staple is the Skindinavia Bridal Finish, it can also remove cakiness specially if you’ve overpowdered your concealer or foundation.
10). Carry a fan with you at all times
Carrying a fan with you, whether its battery powered or one that resembles the ones your mother or grandmother used to whip out from their handbag, its good to keep them handy and ready to use when you feel the heat overpowering you.
That’s all for now are there any other tips you like to share to keep you looking fresh and hydrated everyday?
